Bring Your Bags to Church

As part of our Earth Day celebration a few weeks ago, we mentioned a campaign we're engaged in to reduce use of single use plastic bags. We are partnering with TREX, a company that turns single use plastic into useful products like benches and decks. If we can collect 500 lbs of single use plastic bags, we'll be awarded a bench which we'll be placing at the Mt. Laurel Library. Two other communities that are part of the GreenFaith Circle of Southern New Jersey are also participating in this program. What can you do? Check out the flier for guidelines on what can be included and what cannot. Bring any appropriate materials to our in person services at the Moorestown Community Center (May 29th, June 26th or July 10th), or drop them off at the Mount Laurel Library. Any questions, or for more information, contact Marty at 856-266-7331.

What can be collected

Love Orphanage

Our own Ahaji Schreffler, RScP is the US Liaison to Love Orphanage. She met Gabriel during her first volunteer trip to Haiti in December 2011. Briefly mentioning Love Orphanage, she was intrigued and inspired. She was touched by the impact of one person’s sacrifice and dedication in changing the children’s lives. Unlike orphanages that receive sponsorship from international missionary groups, Love Orphanage had little assistance. She travels to Haiti twice per year to spend time with the children and transport needed donations, as well as regular fundraising campaigns to help support Love Orphanage’s mission.

There is a Walk a Thon on 10/8. Please see below for more information.

The Healing Hearts Committee is made up of volunteers from our community who have indicated that they would like to help people within our community whenever they can with whatever is needed.

Since its inception, members of the Healing Hearts Committee have provided support by repairing things, moving things, providing transportation, companionship to appointments, keep in touch phone calls and inspirational cards, to name a few of our activities.

When a request comes into the CCL office, the coordinator for the Healing Hearts Committee sends a “blind copied” email to the Healing Hearts Volunteers. The email does not disclose any personal information about the person making the request unless the person asks to be listed in the request. Most emails only have general information such as date, time, activity, and geographic location in an effort to maintain confidentiality for the person making the request.

The volunteers are not required to acknowledge or accept the request. If a volunteer is attracted to helping, given the general details of the activity, they contact the coordinator and are provided with additional information before deciding whether or not to commit to helping with the request. The volunteer is not obligated to commit to the activity unless it speaks to them and they want to help.

The Healing Hearts Committee’s goal is to help with whatever is needed to the extent that our resources can support.

We invite you be a part of the committee if this kind of volunteer opportunity speaks to you.

For those that may have a need: You never know if anyone is interested in helping unless you ask.

Please reach out to CCL office to let us know: if you want to be a part of this committee OR if you need support from members of our community. [email protected] Love, the Healing Hearts Steering Committee.
